Tech I Use

I’ve often been asked about the tech I use on a regular basis. Here’s a list, in terms of how heavily I use them.

EmberDesktop

This one is my desktop. Yes, it’s got a cheesy nickname. I don’t have a very good imagination when it comes to naming things. Sorry. I game, do work and content production on this desktop.

OS: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700
Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro Wifi
RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32GB DDR4 3200Mhz
Disk: Sabrent Rocket Q 2TB NVMe SSD
GPU: MSI Radeon RX 570 8GB Armor OC
PSU: EVGA G2 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Audio: Cochlear TV Streamer
Microphone: Wireless Headset
Webcam: Logitech C270
Monitor 1: Dell U2412M 24 60Hz Monitor
Monitor 2: AOC CQ27G1 27 144Hz Monitor
Mouse: UtechSmart Venus Wired Laser Mouse
Keyboard: Redragon K550 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

You can find the link to my hardware in this PCPartPicker link.

Emberlaptop

Mobile communication. Also a backup computer in case my desktop ever fails.

Manufacturer: Dell
Model: Inspiron 3542
OS: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
CPU: Intel i3-4030U @ 1.90Ghz
RAM: 8GB
GPU: Intel Haswell
Disk: 1TB Crucial M5 SSD. Specifically, CT1024M5.

Emberberry

Raspberry Pi 4 with 8GB RAM, in a custom CaseLabs wooden case and logo design of my own. This one just hosts a small number of services.

PiHole

Raspberry Pi Zero 1.3v, the one with the wifi. This one has an ethernet adapter that’s connected to this Pi and exclusively runs PiHole, an ad-blocking platform that I use to reduce the chances of malware and other malicious scripts from gaining a foothold on my network.

Lab

Dell PowerEdge R420 Server
OS: Proxmox VE 6.3
CPU: 2x E5-2420 6-core Processor
RAM: 64GB DDR3 RAM
PSU: 2x 550W Platinum Power Supply
RAID: H310 Mini RAID Controller
Drives: 2x 120GB Kingston SSDs, OS drives
4x 1TB Western Digital NAS Drives

There are other devices I use also, but they’re not listed here because they’re either down or not ready for use yet, such as my little storage server and my server that I use for my homelab.
